Catholic Education – Diocese of Cairns Consultant First Nations Education. Myree Sam is a proud fluent speaker of Kalaw Kawaw Ya, the traditional language of Saibai Island where she grew up. She is a member of the Sui-Baydham Clan of Saibai Island. As Consultant First Nations Education for the Diocese of Cairns, Myree is a member of a School Effectiveness Team, a multidisciplinary team that supports schools achieve their annual school Improvement goals. Myree also works directly with teaching staff in schools, building understanding and cultural responsiveness to best inform teaching practice. With English as an Additional Language, Myree is able to share strategies with staff for best practices in this area. Myree has taught in a variety of contexts with the Diocese over many years. She works alongside school leadership in establishing and maintaining community partnerships and engagement to ensure there is a shared understanding and shared responsibility.
