Positive Partnerships and the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA)

On Monday 20 February 2017, Positive Partnerships and the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together to promote an understanding of autism and the support that can be accessed by culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The MOU signifies a commitment from both organisations to work together to help deliver an effective Multicultural Engagement Strategy.

The partnership came about after meetings held in December 2016 sparked a shared interest between the two organisations. NEDA is well placed to provide CALD sector leadership for Positive Partnerships multicultural engagement and Positive Partnerships is well placed to provide insights that will assist NEDA in its advocacy role.

There is a real need in CALD communities to raise awareness of autism and where support can be accessed. Through the Multicultural Engagement Strategy, Positive Partnerships will promote its programs and support to CALD communities, with NEDA ideally placed to assist in this objective.

Through this partnership, NEDA will support Positive Partnerships engage with CALD communities to enhance their understanding of autism, facilitate the distribution of information through their existing channels and play an advisory role for engagement with CALD communities in the disability sector.

In attendance of the MoU signing were Settlement Services International, the Chinese Australian Services Society, Co.As.It., and DiverseWerks, who all support this important Strategy and will aid in its roll out.

The two organisations are excited about partnering to deliver the Multicultural Engagement Strategy and improve outcomes for school aged children from CALD communities with autism. The MoU will run through until June 2019.
